Who’s the girl?

by Katharine on September 1, 2010

Adopted from South Korea, raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and transplanted in Philadelphia in 2005, I’m discovering a life worth living through blogging, writing, cancer advocacy, discovering authentic happiness, and living life on my own terms.

While teachers and professors can prepare you academically for the real world, no one can prepare you for real life and those moments that either make you or break you.

I co-founded a nonprofit organization, Run 2 Inspire, as a way of giving back to my community and all the women who have been affected by HPV and cervical cancer.  Life is too precious; we all deserve a chance to fight our battle and inspire others.  Cervical cancer is nearly 100% preventable and I truly believe that women should not have to endure the emotional and physical pain that I went through.

I’m a Gen-Y Entrepreneur who has survived the loss of both parents and cervical cancer.  Both of those moments broke me, but somehow I managed to survive and I’m inspiring others to continue fighting for everything they want in life because I believe it’s the only real way to live.

In December 2010, a devastating job loss and entrepreneurial punches bruised my ego and shattered my soul.  I’m in the midst of working through my Quarter-Life Crisis by taking my life abroad.  In March 2011, I traded the City of Brotherly Love for Prague, Czech Republic to reclaim my career and travel the world.  In April 2011, I earned a certification to Teach English as a Foreign Language (TEFL).  After traveling around the world to Europe, Asia, and Australia, I’ve discovered adventure, forgiveness and happiness in Sydney, Australia where I currently call ‘home.’  I’m learning to live passionately and with intention every day through ESL teaching, writing, love, and gratitude.

We only have this one life to be amazing.  To build incredible friendships with people who have the ability to change our lives.  To follow our heart, live passionately, and make our dreams come true.  Wherever you go, leave your mark. We all deserve a life worth living and only you can define what kind of life that will be.
